Shhhh, It's Valentine's Day

The Sri Rama Sene has begun skidding its own tail once again. Once again it has raised its unsolicited voice in desperate attempt to be seen on the national platform and be recognized as one entity impossible to ignore amidst a melee of other fanatic set ups. At first it manhandled girls at a pub in Mangalore and now it is planning something like direct action day, targeting couples found dating on the 14th of February. What titillates me is the fact that Pramod Muthalik, the frantic leader of this crazy organization, has announced not only holding protests outside colleges, hostels, hotels where Valentines Day celebrations are carried out mostly, but also forcibly marry off couples found dating! The upholders of Indian culture- Sri Rama Sene- what a joke! I know I should have been sad at the sorry state of affairs but don't know why I suddenly feel hysterical, almost laughing off my lungs out at the vacuousness some people can so easily fall a prey to. Since when have foxes started taking interest in prolonging the life of the poultry?
The best part of this show is the announcement made by the leader in a press conference which goes as follows:
"Our activists will go around with a priest, a turmeric stub and a mangalsutra on February 14. If we come across couples…we will take them to the nearest temple and conduct their marriage, if the couples resist the move, the girl will be forced to tie a 'rakhi' to the boy."
I really cannot express how amused I am at the splendid waves being blown by our dear Sri Rama Sene. This body has promised to do what neither our government could manage easily nor the NGOs or women organizations associated with causes related to women. My humble proposal keeping in line with that of the Sena falls thus.
All the poor people of India must flock to Karnataka on the 14th of February with their daughters who have reached marriageable age but are unable to get married due to a social demon called dowry system. These girls must be set to target boys -preferably a good looking one, engineer, MBA type- in full view of a Sri Rama sainik and trust me, even if the girls would be one yard away from the guys only to say Hello, viola, the matter is sealed! Let the Vedic chants vibrate in the air as a follow up.
And for all the deperate and poor men in lookout for a bride, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity too. I wonder what would be the reaction if girls and women organizations start saying hello to the monkeys of the new sena of Ram, with full respect to Lord Hanuman and the monkeys helping out Lord Rama in fighting a battle against Ravana for rescuing Sita. Would the 'sainiks' marry them in the name of …whoever, let's not bother.
Anyway, it sounds too good to be true for couples facing family pressure due to love found outside caste and even religion or nation. Let the 14th of February, 2009 be the epitome for start of a revolution in India. Surely the myopic (or hypermetropic, I am confused) Rama Sene wouldn't ask the dating couples their caste or religion before forcing them to get married in a temple. The demolition drive of discriminatory and narrow minded caste and religious considerations in marriage will be healthy for our nation. Wow, what a beginning. Kudos to Sri Rama Sene.
As our old bard Shakespeare wisely said, "sweet are the uses of adversity," let the couples seriously in love not feel threatened at all on the 14th of February. The forcible marriage could be an occasion to celebrate in future for the 'forced' couples. Why not take your family along to witness this saga that has never been seen or told before, atleast their attendance would ensure proper blessings while exchanging wedding vows. What say?
By the way, wishing all of you a very happy Valentines Day. To Sri Ram Sene and its cousins too.
